Mimic

I suppose every photographer takes in the work that they admire and tries to recreate it - to an extent. It's natural to look at an image and wonder how the photographer captured it, and subsequently learn a new technique or way of seeing. It gets the wheels in your head turning, you process it and you get better because of that. But these people are going a little far. Maybe it's comparable to a painter copying a masterpiece - but then, not really. In fact, not at all.

Not the same. ...To me.
For painting, for me, it's practice. It's not an imitation.
This? Just obsessive.

That's what I was saying. Painters copy masters because it's a good way to learn technique. With photography, there's no need to shoot exactly the same photograph as Ansel to learn his Zone System. I find the whole thing to be extremely silly.
